Terms

Who owns what here, and what this site is allowed to do with it. Using OSRS Clans means agreeing to what is below, and to the privacy policy at /privacy, which is part of these terms. Written plainly by the person who runs the site rather than by a lawyer.

1. These terms can change

They may be revised at any time. The date above says when they last were, and a change worth noticing is announced on the site rather than made quietly. Using the site after a revision is accepting the revised version.

They are a placeholder in one respect that is said here rather than hidden: they are not drafted legal terms and they define none of the words a proper set would define. Nothing in them is meant to take away a right you hold under the law where you live.

2. Access to the service

Using the site, signing in or writing anything on it means all of the below.

  • You are 16 or over.

  • Your use of the site is lawful where you are.

  • You do not scrape, crawl or automate against the site beyond what robots.txt allows, and you do not resell or republish the directory.

  • You do not impersonate another person, another clan, or the site's staff.

  • Signing in is through Discord, so Discord's own terms apply to that account alongside these.

  • Your account is yours to keep secure, and what is done through it is treated as done by you.

3. Who runs this site

One person, not a company. The contact section below is how to reach them, and it is where a rights complaint, a takedown request or a question about anything below should go.

4. Collection of data

Signing in keeps your Discord account id, display name and avatar hash, and nothing else Discord holds. The site counts its own page views, with no cookie and no third-party service, and no page carries a tracker.

What is stored, who else sees it and how long it is kept is set out in full in the privacy policy at /privacy.

5. Intellectual property

The OSRS Clans name, the wordmark and the square mark, the colour palettes and themes, the textures, the generated clan banners, the share card design, the written copy, the source code, and the way the directory is selected and arranged: all rights reserved.

Reading the site, linking to it and quoting a sentence of it are fine. Copying the look, reusing the artwork or presenting any of it as your own is not.

6. What you upload stays yours

A clan name and motto, the panels on a clan page and everything in them, tags, requirements, updates, forum threads and posts, poll options, uploaded logos, banners, panel artwork and post images, and the screenshot sent with an application: yours. Nothing here transfers ownership of any of it.

Nobody may take what you uploaded and use it elsewhere without your say-so. Other people reading it on this site is what putting it here is for; anything beyond that is between them and you.

7. The licence everybody else gets

Unless you say otherwise, what you upload is offered to everybody else under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence, CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, at creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/. Anyone may share it and link to it if they credit you and name the licence. Nobody may sell it, put it beside advertising, build a site off it for money, or publish a cropped, recoloured or otherwise altered version. That is the point of it: your art is not a scraper's to monetise.

It is your licence to give, not this site's. This site is passing on the terms you chose by uploading, and it takes no cut of them and no rights under them.

If you already hold or want to give different terms, say so on the upload and those terms govern instead. A licence is not exclusive either: the same work can be given to a commissioner, a client or anyone else on whatever terms you like, at the same time, with no reference to this site.

A licence once given cannot be taken back. Deleting an upload takes it off this site and ends what this site may do with it, and it does not undo the licence held by somebody who already has a copy. Consider that before uploading something you may want to keep close later.

8. What showing it here needs

Uploading something gives this site permission to store it, copy it, re-encode it, cut it to the sizes a page draws, frame it into a share card, serve it through the content network in front of the site, and show it wherever the site shows it.

That is a separate permission, given to this site by name, and it is what lets the site run at all: the licence above is between you and the reader, and it forbids the re-encoding and cropping every page here depends on.

That permission covers running and describing this site and nothing else. It is not sold, and it is not handed to anyone beyond the hosting and delivery this site is built on.

9. When you take something down

Deleting something ends this site's permission. What survives here is only what is already elsewhere: backups until they roll off, caches until they expire, and the thirty-day window an armed erasure runs for.

The CC BY-NC-ND licence a reader already took is not ended by it, because no Creative Commons licence can be withdrawn once given. Deleting stops the next person getting one; it does not reach the ones already handed out.

Two things outlive an erased account on purpose, and both are said again here: a forum post keeps its words without your name on it, and a clan update stays with the clan under the clan's own byline.

10. What you are saying when you upload

That it is yours to upload, or that you have permission from whoever it belongs to, and that showing it here breaks nobody else's rights. If that turns out to be wrong, it is on you, and the file comes off the site.

11. Acceptable use, and what can be taken down

A post or a thread can be removed, a board closed, a clan delisted and an account shut out of writing. None of that changes who owns anything.

A removal carries its reason, an account under a site sanction can appeal it once, and a clan or a board scheduled for erasure has thirty days in which it can still be called off, after which it is deleted for good.

Where something written here appears to break the law rather than only the rules, it can be reported to whoever the right authority is.

12. Excessive use of the service

The API is rate limited at the edge, and a client that keeps hitting that limit can be refused for longer. An account or an address making the site slower for everybody else can be cut off without notice.

13. Access to external resources

The site links out to Discord servers, clan sites and other places it does not run, and it fetches avatars from Discord, item icons from the Iron Foundry API and clan statistics from Wise Old Man. What any of them serve is theirs, not this site's, and no responsibility is taken for it.

There is no advertising on this site and no advertising network runs on any page.

14. Old School RuneScape is not ours either

This is an unofficial directory with no affiliation to Jagex. Old School RuneScape, RuneScape and Jagex are their trade marks, and the game's names, icons and artwork belong to them.

Item icons are rendered from the game's own cache by the Iron Foundry API. NPC and splash artwork comes from the Old School RuneScape Wiki and is used under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0. Neither is this site's to license on to anybody.

15. Limitation of liability

The site is offered as it is. It may change, break, lose an upload or go away, and there is no warranty and no guarantee of uptime behind it. Keep your own copy of any artwork you care about.

Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or a breach of your rights under the GDPR.

Email contact@osrsclans.cc, or message "Saltis." on Discord. The full stop is part of the handle. A rights complaint, a takedown request and a data request all go to the same place.

17. Governing law

These terms are read under the law of the European Union, and the site is operated from within it. The GDPR applies to everything the privacy policy describes, and it is applied to everybody who uses the site rather than only to people the law would compel it for: where you live and what passport you hold change nothing about the rights set out at /privacy.

Nothing here asks you to give up a consumer right or a court that the law where you live gives you.
